Remote diagnostics can really impact the democratization of healthcare in India.

India has 1,369 million inhabitants, nearly 1/5 of the world’s population live in India. It is the 7th largest country in the world, 3,287,263 km2. A total of ~ 18 million babies are born every year in India and the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India is high, 13% MMR, (WHO 2016). WHO recommends a patient:doctor ratio of 1:1,000. In India, there is one doctor for every 10,189 people. or a deficit of 600,000 doctors, and the nurse:patient ratio is 1:483, implying a shortage of two million nurses.

Meet Dr. Chander P Lulla one of India’s most esteemed maternal fetal medicine specialist. Currently Dr. Lulla is a consultant, sonologist and Fetal Medicine specialist at Ria Clinic, Jaslok Hospital and Reliance HN hospital in India. He is also the dean of Indian Federation of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology with ~2500 members. Dr. Lullas professional career is very impressive. He is also the past president of Indian Federation of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology   (IFUMB), former Counselor of the Asian Federation of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology, former editor of the IFUMB Journal and the former ambassador for ISUOG in India.

Dr Lulla is a Tricefy user and he sees a significant impact in the day to day care for his patients but even more so for the quality of care in India in general.

India also suffers from a lack of specialists and the doctors are concentrated in the cities which comprises of 30% of India’s population. 70% of rural healthcare is under the mercy of technicians, basic sonologists or general radiologists who are not as specialized. Tricefy has the potential through remote reading enabling the physicians to take second opinion and providing improved patient care in situations where the patient cannot afford to travel. According to Dr. Lulla  Tricefy can be used for Remote Reading and contribute to the democratization of access to care, bridging the gap between patients in need and doctors available. Dr. Lulla believes that pre-consultation image transfer from remote areas for pre-surgical procedure planning will greatly be improved.

Many radiologists are visiting consultants to multiple hospitals and there is a need to travel between the hospitals. Dr.Lulla believes Tricefy is a great technology providing access to patient information anytime, anywhere and from any device. It helps doctors to track the patients on the Tricefy App on their mobile phone which can surely facilitate the need for an urgent consultation and help in digital communication between specialists.

India is planning to digitize all medical records as part of Aayushmaan Bharat Scheme by 2025. The patients’ medical records needs to be maintained so that the patient need not do repeat scans if they visit a different site. Tricefy will be a gamechanger and truly support the cause of Digital India.

Trice is committed to Quality of care for people regardless of who and where they are and is proud to contribute to the digitalization of the Indian healthcare system even further.
